'Wide sea, that one continuous murmour breeds along the pebbled shore of memory' John Keats
The sea is often seen as a symbol of totality, a projection of the unframed subconcious, a decent into the innermost self for a search in meaning. Alongside this could be placed a floating boat perhaps seen as a bouyant safe space amongst this daunting infinity.
Within this setting Artist and Designer, Peter Levy works on boat forms that extend towards the immediacy of surface they float upon. Drawing on his own experiences and the lives of many a fisherman, the worn and weathered fishing fleet is captured efectively in the Raku process.
In gallery 1, much inspiration was nurtured in the ports of Devon and Cornwall. In gallery 2, a collaboration with fellow designer Jody Sumner. Her glass pieces capture and reflect light in a resonance that set a sea alive on which the weathered vessels can be cast adrift. In gallery 3, themes of the ever safe haven and guiding beams of our coastal lighthouses are explored. In gallery 4, harnessing the natural forces of wind and sail.
